You’ll need a mask, long sleeves, a measuring tape, and a Saturday you don’t mind spending in a 110° attic. Where DIY goes wrong is when the failure involves moisture, rodents, or wiring. If you’ve got chewed batts, you’ve got an entry point somewhere, and new insulation without closing the entry point just means the next generation moves in and ruins it too. If you’ve got damp material, the leak has to be fixed first or you’re throwing money at a symptom.
